  *The Tax Ax Man!!!*

I am currently in the process of making a recommendation to the legislative delegation to change the legal date of assessment from January 1 to June 1 of each tax year. This change will provide a much more fair valuation of properties because it will reflect more current conditions in declining volatile markets, as in recent years. View Recommendation  Unfortunately, this proposal cannot be placed before the legislature until the 2009 session.  But if you will permit me to continue to serve you, I will work vigorously for its passage.

My performance in trying to protect you from devious and excessive property tax policies is proven.  My office has provided the public with a state of the art website that offers a wide variety of information in a straightforward and open format, including the value of all property in the County.  This website receives  in excess of 5 million  hits per  month,  indicating its strong value as an information source to our community.  If re-elected, I will continue to work for more useful web-based tools to make available to the public.

In closing, I have faithfully and honestly served you since 1988.  In 2004, FLORIDA TODAY characterized my office as being one of competence and integrity.  Those who know me, know that I respect the laws that govern this office.  I cannot be bullied by bureaucrats or taxing authorities and will not inflate property values to help the county or cities collect more tax dollars from you.  I treat people fairly and I stand up for the taxpayers. That is why I will continue to “Fight for Taxpayers,” given the privilege and honor to serve.  Fighting for taxpayers is something I have been doing for the 20 years I have held office, and I look forward to continuing those efforts on your behalf.

Thank you for your consideration.
